What Questions to Ask Your Wedding Photographer Before Booking

Choosing your wedding photographer is more than just ticking a box on your planning list — you’re inviting someone into one of the most personal, emotional, and important days of your life. So it’s totally okay to ask questions. In fact, I encourage it.

Here are a few key ones to get you started — and why they actually matter:

“Can we see a full wedding gallery?”

Instagram shows the highlights — the best of the best. But what really matters is how a photographer captures the wholeday. A full gallery gives you a proper feel for their consistency, how they handle tricky lighting, emotional moments, and everything in between.

“What’s your backup plan if you’re unwell or there’s an emergency?”

No one likes to think about worst-case scenarios, but life happens. A professional should always have a plan in place — whether it’s a trusted backup photographer, emergency contact details, or an agreement that keeps you protected. Peace of mind is everything.

“How do you handle low-light situations like indoor ceremonies or evening receptions?”

Not every venue is flooded with natural light — and that’s okay. But you want someone who knows how to work in all conditions. Ask to see examples of indoor or evening shots so you know they’ve got it covered.

“Do you work alone or with a second shooter?”

Second shooters can be great for capturing different angles or parts of the day happening at the same time (like both of you getting ready). It’s also an extra layer of backup. Some photographers always work solo, some offer it as an add-on — it’s good to know what’s included.

“How involved are you with the planning side of things?”

This is a big one. A good photographer does more than show up and shoot — they help with timelines, location suggestions, group photo lists, and making the day flow. You want someone who’s supportive, experienced, and happy to guide you through the process.

And most importantly... “What’s your vibe?”

Okay, maybe not in those exact words — but finding someone whose energy matches yours is everything. You’ll spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than almost anyone else. Do they make you feel relaxed? Do you click? Can you imagine having them there during emotional moments?

There’s no such thing as a silly question — if something’s on your mind, ask it. The right photographer will be more than happy to answer and help you feel totally comfortable before you make your decision.

If you’re planning a day that breaks the mould, skips the stiff posing, and actually feels like you — I’m your guy. Real moments, real connection, no fake smiles. Let’s do this your way.
